What makes a machine a machine you ask? Well, the 9th graders have been studying with Mr. Uber that question in depth and along the way, they have created a Rube Golberg like compound machine in each of their small groups. “A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately complex contraption in which a series of devices that perform simple tasks are linked together to produce a domino effect in which activating one device triggers the next device in the sequence.” For this to happen they needed to create many simple machines to complete one larger task. Each of the 6 simple machines http://idahoptv.org/sciencetrek/topics/simple_machines/facts.cfm are demonstrated and explained in detail by the groups. These machines are quite fantastic and demonstrate the hard work, creativity, and learning done by the 9th grade students!
