Colegio Americano gave me an extraordinary bilingual education where I learned about different worlds and cultures. I earned a scholarship which has given me the opportunity to study and excel in the United States.

 OUR STUDENTS

Students are the heartbeat of the American School of Puerto VallartaStudents are the heartbeat of the American School of Puerto Vallarta/Colegio Americano. The student body is a diverse, yet close-knit group who share and learn from each other. Unlike some international schools, we seek to serve children from Puerto Vallarta and Mexico as well as international students.

The demographic breakdown of the 343 students enrolled at the beginning of the 2009 – 2010 school year was 228 Mexican citizens; 81 US citizens, 34 from other countries.

By grade, 2009 – 2010 enrollment was as follows: Nursery – Kindergarten 51, Pre1st – 6th 157, 7th – 9th 68, 10th – 12th 67
 MEET ONE OF OUR STUDENTS
Alex Trolson - age 12Alex Trolson attended the American School of Puerto Vallarta during the 2002-2003 school year along with his sister Callie, age 9. Alex was born in Seattle, Washington and frequently visited Puerto Vallarta on family vacations, starting at 10 months old. Last fall the family temporarily relocated to Puerto Vallarta to offer the children exposure to another culture and to learn Spanish. Alex loved his experience at the school.

On his first day of school, he was "adopted" by another American student and had no difficulty adjusting to the new school. He played soccer after school 2 days a week and had an extra hour of Spanish through the homework assistance program. Upon returning home to Seattle, his 6th grade teacher was very impressed with his achievement and he received the "Student of the Month" award. Alex is entering junior high this fall and is taking high school Spanish. He plans to become fluent in Spanish.
 OUR GRADUATES

As the 2009-2010 school year draws to a close, it is once again our pleasure to congratulate the students of the senior class for their accomplishments here at the American School of Puerto Vallarta and to announce their plans for university studies. This year, 6 of our 24 seniors have decided to study in the U.S., 2 in Canada, 1 in Switzerland, 11 in Mexico and 4 are taking a gap year before beginning their university careers.

Ninety-five percent of the Class of 2002 continue on at colleges and universities.

Many of our seniors have attended Colegio Americano since preschool and the acceptance they’ve received here and abroad is a tribute to the dedication and effort put forth by our students, their parents and our academic institution.

Graduates from the Class of 2010 have been accepted to various universities including:

In Mexico: Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), the largest and most renown university in Latin America, Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Tec de Monterrey (Guadalajara, Monterrey and Aguascalientes campuses), U. Autonoma de Guadalajara, and the Universidad Libre de Derecho in Monterrey.

In Canada: University of Alberta and University of British Columbia.

In the United States: University of Oklahoma, Suffolk University in Boston, Drake University in Iowa, Whitman College in Washington and Edison College in Florida. One of our students has decided to take post graduate studies at Phillips Exeter Academy to better prepare for university studies.

In Europe: Ecole Hotelier Lausanne and Les Roches International School of Hotel Management.

The entire faculty and staff join me in congratulating our seniors and wishing them the best in their future endeavors.

Lisa Langley.

 MEET SOME OF OUR GRADUATES

Ayelet graduated from ASPV in 2001.

I asked her for an update on her life and here's what she responded:

I've been doing well! After high school I lived in a Kibbutz for a year. Then I did an intensive dance course at the Ballet Nacional de Mexico in Bellas Artes. After that, I joined the IDF, the Israeli army and did my two year service in Intelligence. Right after that I started my degree at the University of Victoria in BC. Did my degree in three years in Political Science and Middle Eastern studies. And right after that I was accepted to direct an NGO, and I'm going for my third year now as Director. That's the past ten years in a nutshell! :)

To my beloved former second family, also known as the Colegio Americano:

I report that upon graduating from the American School I went on to receive a B.S. in Advertising and Public Relations at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). As it was a requirement of most undergrads, but more than anything an invaluable learning experience, I spent two quarter terms doing paid internships at a full Advertising agency in Washington, D.C. Having learned the craft and account portions of advertising, my next goal is to earn a Master of Business Administration degree at RIT.

Saludos,

Michael Armando Diaz (Class of 2006)
