ASPV News Receives Gold Medalist Placement from CSPA

ASPV News, the digital magazine produced by the senior class at the American School of Puerto Vallarta, received top honors recently from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York.

The gold medalist placement from CSPA recognizes the achievements of last year’s seniors, who produced a range of stories about school and community life, from a local school in need of renovation to a feature on the Vallarta Zoo and a behind-the-scenes look at the musical, Cinderella, among other stories.

This year, students have tackled stories such as Puerto Vallarta´s annual gourmet festival. Student Ale Meza said through her research for the story, she learned new information about international cuisine in Puerto Vallarta.

“I hope journalism class begins a lifelong appreciation of storytelling and nurturing creativity,” said Allyson Williams, journalism teacher.

In CSPA’s written critique of the site, the judges said, “Congratulations on publishing an excellent digital magazine and your Gold Medalist honors. You can be very proud of producing an online magazine devoted to informing and entertaining your readers.”

CSPA recognizes schools throughout the U.S. and abroad that follow a U.S.-based curriculum.
