On February 1st, students from ASPV’s high school National Honor Society hosted the annual Reading Workshop for 42 rural school educators in the state of Jalisco.
Rural schools are operated by the Consejo Nacional para el Fomento de la Educacion (CONAFE) in Mexico and are often one-room school houses with all of preschool or primary-aged students from the community. The instructors are young people volunteering in exchange for high school or university scholarships.
These workshops are an essential part of the “Leer y Crecer” (Read & Grow) program that NHS has operated under the guidance of Ms. Lisa Schalla since 2006. One of the goals of “Leer y Crecer” is to enrich their training for engaging children in reading.
