Our Kinder 1 students with Miss Mary built all they needed to travel: cars, trains, a plane, a bus, luggage, IPads, and seat belts. Once everything was ready, the children played in the patio with the different forms of transport, and each student took on a different role: selling tickets, working at the bank, registering luggage or were pilots or conductors. Role playing is crucial at this age as it develops empathy. Learning to tend to others and be tended to, by buying, or selling, there is a development in self-control. By performing adult tasks, like waiting in line or working with numbers in real-life scenarios, there is meaningful learning.
