Each of the Kinder 1 students performed a different task to keep their Tortillería running: they shelled corn, prepared the nixtamal, made dough with maseca, made tortillas in the traditional device, and created as a group a brand new device, and finally, they bought and sold tortillas. In each of the tasks, students had to measure and log the ingredient amounts that they used to accomplish their goal (corn, water, dough, corn ears, and number of tortillas produced). With this project, under Miss Mary’s supervision, our children learned through play.
