On Tuesday, November 4, pre-first students at ASPV were treated to a very special and authentic learning experience. Student Amaya and her mom, Mrs. Payal, shared with the class their knowledge about the ancient Hindu festival “Diwali” or the “Festival of Lights” celebrated in autumn every year in India. The spiritual significance of the festival is the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.

Mrs. Payal shared with students the legend from where the Diwali tradition originates. She then played videos showing Diwali celebrations in India, which include fireworks, sand drawings, typical attire, and traditional foods. Finally Mrs. Payal shared with students some delicious foods and sweets that are typically eaten during Diwali celebrations. It was an enriching and fun learning experience for all students in Ms. Abbie’s pre-first class.
